What is the internet for you?
1: A global alternative reality where you meet people from all over the world on different communities and chat-rooms and a place where you can read people's blogs?
2: A place where you check news-sites and your mail on a daily basis?
3: A resort place when you get home from school/work and play flash games and watch movies on youtube?
4: An online encyclopedia full with information about different cults of the world, African tribes, Asian food, conspiracy theories, and the likes?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Personal Computers have from their birth been reflected with a "workstation", with a 'desktop', 'trash can', 'note book', 'calculator' and other real-life objects that you can do the equivalent thing with. Although programs and games don't always feel referred to as real-life oriented; the basis of them are (files in folders). What in a real-life connection does the 'Internet' stand for? Well, the 'internet' is a place where you search information(irl: 'book'), read blogs(irl: 'diary'), read news(irl: 'newspaper'), read mail(irl: 'mail'), search recipes(irl: 'cookbook'), play games(irl: 'games'), watch videos and the likes(irl: 'tv').
The internet is fabulous, eh?
But there's a catch... No, wait... There's a lot of catches...
When you watch TV, there is a commercial break now and then. But that's great, so you can go take a piss or fetching some sandwiches. On the internet you don't have breaks, thank God(by the way, I'm an atheist), but instead you get terrorized with commercials on every site, in/on your mail and even sometimes when you search for information! This is sick! What was made to be a revolution has been commercialized and unstructured. Wait, I don't think I haven't yet mentioned everything. What can I have forgotten that is widely spread over all the internet, something that even in the real world for some people is the number one enemy (a hint: something that generally women have a lot of moral opinions about). PORN!! This plague that , none the less, has a huge budget. Which of course is because some people consumes it diligently. But why does the rest of the people on the internet have to suffer from it, the reason is MONEY. Because some people consumes, the companies (just like in the real world) have to compete about them (which all too often means advertisement). There are a lot of ad-blockers and the likes out there. But if you can remember the days when almost every ad opened a pop-up window (not all too long ago), you can firstly recall that it was super-annoying and I guess that you even felt unsecured on the internet (-Will I get a virus by entering this site?). The solution to this problem was the plug-in pop-up-blockers, which later on has been integrated in our internet browsers.
Today ad's are being brought to us by putting a little picture/window (almost always an animation) on either side of the screen when you enter a site (some even pop-up, but with another technology than the old ones that opened new 'internet browser windows'). History repeats itself, because there now exist plug-in's that block these ad-pictures so they don't load. Soon I can tell you that those plug-in's will be integrated in your internet browser. GREAT, then we will all get rid of the crappy ad's!...... NO! You will not. The companies/persons that are behind this littering on our internet will find another way to 'reach' us with viagra-advertisement and porn-ad's.
My vision is that we reclaim the internet while we can.
And the way I wish to do this is to make myself a domain, for example http://www.enterinternet.com or something like it and from there start all over again with building up sites of information and the likes. It would be a project reaching for the revolutionary greatness of wikipedia or youtube, sites that just appeared from thin air and took over.
Anyone who has got the same wish as me should contact me!
I can be reached by mail at ever_dale@hotmail.com!
LET'S RECLAIM THE INTERNET, TOGETHER WE CAN DO IT!!!!
